With its main virtue of high separation efficiency, simple structure, being made easily and being cleaned easily, the vertical grid blank mist eliminator is a new type liquid-gas separator .In this paper, the performance of the mist eliminator was investigated by numerical simulation and experiment. In this paper, the liquid-gas flow in mist eliminator was numerically simulated by CFD's commercial software-Fluent 6.0. First, the flow field in mist eliminator was numerically simulated with the Standard k-e Model and then the liquid-gas flow was numerically simulated using Fluent 6.0's Discrete Phase Model. The numerical simulation result showed that ① Centrifugal movement and the separation efficiency increased steadily with the gas velocity until it reached a peak value and thereafter diminished with turbulent strengthening because of further increase in gas velocity. ② Because of increasing turbulent, the energy loss increased, and the pressure drop increased with the gas velocity. The performance of the mist eliminator was investigated by experiment. Using spray to simulate the mist eliminator's actual working environment, at the condition of normal temperature and normal pressure, the relation between separation efficiency and outlet gas velocity, the relation between pressure drop and outlet gas velocity was investigated by experiment. The experimental result was basically accord with the numerical simulation result. The suiltable inlet velocity was in 5m/s—15m/s, and the limited velocity was abaut 11 m/s,the pressure drop was in 100 Pa—600 Pa.The result of the investigation will be helpful for designing and applying the vertical gridblank mist eliminator.
