With the southern extension of Wuxi's municipal construction, Binhu New City willbecome the center of the next sequence of construction. The amount of industrial andsanitary waste will increase considerably. Because the limited number of drainagefacilities can hardly meet the requirement of development, environmentcontamination becomes a problem that need solving immediately in order to carry outsustainable development policy. Therefore, the government of Wuxi City decided tobuild a wastewater treatment plant in the town of Binhu new city.The construction of Binhu new city wastewater treatment plant can not only improvethe ecological condition of the adjacent water body, but also help to control thepollution around Taihu Lake watershed and enhance the its water quality. Moreover,the construction of this project can further better the investment environment of Binhunew city, which combines environment benefit, social benefit and economy benefit asa whole. This project will lay a firm foundation to build Binhu new city as an ecologycity with blue sky and clean water.The scale of the short-term (till 2005) project is 5×104m3/d, and that of the long-term(till 2020) is 15×104 m3/d. Since the main part of influent water is industrial waste, wefinally recommend Modified A2/O process after comparing three schemes, includingModified A2/O, Orbal oxidation ditch and CASS. Mechanical thickening anddewatering is adopted to treat the sludge, and dewatered sludge is carried toTaohuashan sanitary bury plant to disposal healthily.The total general estimate of project investment is $55.6809 M yuan, and theinvestment of per unit water is $1113 yuan / m3·sewage. Except for the investmentof sewage disposal plant of 5×104m3/d scale, this also includes the investment of thelong-term civil work. In accord with its 5×104 m3/d scale, the equivalent investmentindex of per unit water is $1049.6 yuan/m3.During the short-term project, the areas of deodorization equipment and hydrolyzingand acidification tank are reserved. The investment of deodorization equipment is 3million Renminbi, and that of hydrolyzing and acidification tank is $1.8 M yuan.The floor area of short-term project is 4.96ha, and that of long-term is 14.86 ha.The period of short-term project construction is one year, which began in Apr. 2004,and will complete in Apr. 2005.The execution of this project will remarkably promote the process of Wuxi'senvironment protection and the pollution control around Taihu Lake watershed.
