Ever since the application of bolt support technology in china's mining practice, our mining scientists and researchers have done much research work in both theory and practice, accumulating a great deal of first-hand material and abundant experience. However, to tell the truth, for the moment only a few mining camps and projecting units master systematically the advanced bolt support technology while most of the grass-roots production units are still using their past experience. When meeting problems, they first employ some common bolt support techniques and then maintain repeatedly, which results in great economic loss of hundreds of millions every year. Moreover, due to too many complication ways to work out the bolt parameter and the great effort needed in theoretical calculation and repeated proofreading, it is rather difficult for the project designers on spot to master and apply the bolt support technology. Also it is made difficult to popularize some designing ways in practical projects. Therefore, it is fairly necessary to develop the system to classify the stability of gateway surrounding rocks and decide the design of bolt support in order to standardize and make scientific the bolt support design in gateway.
