Recently in the traditional ceramic industry there has been an increasing interest in the obtainment of inclusion pigments to stabilize at the firing temperature and towards the actions of molten glasses unstable cromophore such as cadmium sulphoselenide. The pigmentation of the cadmium sulphoselenide pigments is strong and the clour is ruch. The bright red pigment has long playing the important role in the ceramic decoration. But the thermostability of the cadmium sulfoselenide is poor and it is extremely liable to oxidate and decompose under high temperature. How to obtain the thermostable scarlet pigment is a subject that the technical personnel studies continuously. Degussa, a corporation of Germany successfully enhances the cadmium sulfoselenide application temperature through the method of crystal-encapsulated and welding block. Chinese researchers also made many beneficial attempts and successfully synthesized the occlusion red pigment, but its firing temperature is above 1150℃and the preparation conditions is too harsh and the cost is excessively high. Therefore, developing the cadmium sulfoselenide occlusion red pigment at a comparatively low temperature has the important theory significance and economic value. This article studies a new method that synthesizing this kind of occlusion pigment, called"sol and co-precipitation",and the cadmium sulfoselenide occlusion scarlet pigment is synthesized successfully. This colored glaze is vermeil and flamboyant, the glaze surface is smooth and luminous, the pigment can satisfy slap-up ceramic decorations request that the firing temperature between 1200℃and 1250℃.ZrOCl2 and water glass is formed to sols at first, and then the cadmium sulfoselenide suspension mix with sols, the pH of mixed sols is controlled to 7.5, the grains of Zr(OH)4 and SiO2·H2O will precipitate , because they are primary particles, generally they are the nanometer grade particles, the reaction can be carry out in nanometer particles, therefore, mixed sols can greatly lower the formation temperature of ZrSiO4. The pigment was characterized by XRD,IR and ESEM.
