Slip is a tool used to clamp drill pipe or well tube on turntable for oil drilling at the mouth of the well. Now, it is mainly manual at home when mounting and dismantling the drill pipe. It cries for the power slip to reduce the labour intensity, improve the efficiency and operation speed.Firstly, the thesis analyzes the current development of power slips at home and abroad and elects the horizontal mid-balance staff structure of double acting regular cylinder. The thesis summarizes the reason for damage of previous pneumatic slips project, the working condition of the power slips, then selects and creates the geometric model of two projects with plane and taper contact surface. Based on analyzing the structure character and the working principle, the thesis established the force model of the system and computes the force of the parts.Secondly, with ADAMS software the thesis establishes the direct and indirect model , runs mechanical dynamics simulation and then establishes that the system can run without interference. According to iterative analysis, the thesis optimizes the structure and gets the largest pretightening force. Finally, the thesis does the static structural analysis of the key parts at clamping state by ANSYS software and identifies that the strength of the structure meets the required condition. In a word, the second project which is the improved wrap angle of slip is better than another, and then it is selected after analyzing and comparing the two projects.At the state of the product design the thesis uses the model building and the simulation tool to the pneumatic slips. Using the virtual prototype technology cuts down the designing time and the cost, optimizes the parameter of the structure, provides the theory of the manufacturing and simplifies the design process of design-verify-modify-redesign.
