With the development of numeric control processing technic, multiple spindle numerical control machines, which can complete the machining of complex workpiece moulding surface, have become the development trend of numerical control machine. In order to adept the request of complex workpiece moulding surface, multiple spindle numerical control machines have developed from two-axis tandem drive to five-axis tandem drive or above. But because of the number of axis increased, the factor and the complexity that influent the working accuracy increased too. The enactment of the cutter is one of the important factor, in the aspect of cutter compensation, it only has radius compensation and length compensation in planar. In three-dimensions, especially on five-axis tandem drive numerical control machine, it still need further study. So in order to improve the working accuracy of numerical control machine, the study of five-axis cutter radius compensation in this paper is very useful.This paper deduces a general formula of two-dimension cutter radius compensation fit to linear interpolation. And according to the space transition theory, the cutter radius compensation algorithm of cutter position in three-dimension space is obtained.Then, a machining simulation of face is completed with the numerical control machining module in UG and the cutter locus files with machining parameters and processing technical requests are generated. Using the post-process soft, the cutter locus files are converted to the numerical control machining codes with the three-dimension cutter radius compensation algorithm. Finally, the machining simulation with NC machining codes generated is taken in the virtual machining environment and cutter model of five-axis NC machining cutter in the VERICUT machining simulation soft. The results are compared and analyzed deeply. Machining experiments are finished on a mini precision machining cutter, in the process the NC codes can be used and the cutter radius compensation algorithm of five-axis linked NC machining cutter is turned to be correct.
