Electrochemical preparation of a novel water treatment reagent ferrate(â…¥) with cation-exchange membrane was explored. The structure of the cell, the anode materials and sustain of electrolysis on the current yield was discussed. The water treatment ferrate was prepared by electrolysis in diaphragm bath with double cathode chamber and porous cylinder cast iron anode, the higher current yield and higher concentration was maintained. Based on that the instability of ferrate(â…¥), fresh ferrate(â…¥) prepared by electrolysis was released directly to treat wastewater. The treatment objects included the simulative wastewater of aniline and benzidine. The degradation reactions of these organic pollutants treated by ferrate(â…¥) were disclosed by the analysis of ultraviolet spectra, infrared spectra and HPLC. A typical real wastewater hospital was treated by ferrate(â…¥) and the result showed that ferrate is a efficient disinfectant.
