An appropriate mechanical facilities layout plays a key role in ensuring the continuity and smoothness of the facility logistics and material handling, facilitating the operation of the facilities and improving using ratio of workshop area. It then shows significant practical meaning in reducing the manufacturing cost, laborsaving operation, improvement of the productivity and the quality of the parts, ensuring the secure and lean production. Therefore, the facilities layout design is necessary whether in the foundation of a new workshop or in the rebuilding of an old workshop. Considering the inefficient production realistic inasmuch the unreasonable mechanical facilities layout in manufacture workshop of Dalian Refrigeration Co., Ltd., facilities layout based on lean production is researched. The article studied the mechanical facilities layout methods and simulation technology. The main problems studied are described as following:(1) Applied 00 (Object-Oriented) technology in analyzing, inducing and abstracting of the attributes and behaviors of the facilities. The database of equipment and operation process is built utilizing SQL (Standard Query Language). It lays foundation for the following modeling and analyzing of the mechanical facilities layout system.(2) Expatiated the concerned theories of the facilities layout and analyzed the factors that affect the facilities layout. The design of the mechanical facilities layout is divided into 3 interrelated phases. Firstly, build the model of the layout system according to the built database, the production plan and the operation process. Secondly, figure out the layout model using hierarchic algorithm. Thirdly, evaluate the layout model and the system by simulation and contrast the optimized layout with the reality, which helps to improve the layout design scheme.(3) The article last preliminarily studies on simulation of the mechanical facilities layout. A prototype software system is developed on the platform of Visual C++ and SQL Server 2000. The system provides an optimized layout scheme according to the input parameter. It can also offer a direct verification and evaluation of the layout design through the contrast between the simulation of the original layout scheme and the optimized one.
