The NC technology is a new technology which can operate and deal with kinds of control information in the machining process by computer and control the mechanical executive components by high-powered drive cells automatically. Since 1990's with the development of computer science at very fast speed NC technology update even more fast. In the world many companies which build NC system develop new generation NC system of open-architecture by using abundant software and hardware resources of PC. The NC system which is open-architecture has the characteristics of universality, complexity, adaptability and expansibility and it develops towards intelligentize and network.Stability and real time are the most important demands of industry control system. It is difficult for Windows system to ensure high dependability and real time, so we use Windows CE platform. Windows CE designed by Microsoft is an open and upgradable 32-bit embedded operating system. Relative to DOS, Windows CE.NET has memory protecting function which is crucial to the stability of CNC system. Relative to Windows operating system, it is embedded real time operating system. Its unique system structure and running mechanism make it reacting exterior interrupt fleetly and use scheduler to deal it. So it can meet the real-time requirement of CNC system.According to the development of stable real-time CNC system, this article discusses how to build an open-architecture CNC system which is based on industrial PC. Besides the use of PMAC motion control card which is the core of the laser cutting control system, this article also presents the techniques of several main parts. Based on above hardware system, a Windows CE-based software system is developed.The software part is based on Windows CE operating system, and it makes good use of the abundant resource. With the utilizing of object-oriented method, a friendly human machine interface and an efficient multithreading working environment is fulfilled.
