Open structure CNC system has basically established application methodology and specification, and the design model and supporting environment have also formed. Developing the open CNC system on common PC is an inevitable trend of CNC system design.5- axis machining and high speed high precise contour control are the core technologies of top grade CNC system. The pre-process system in CNC system is the basis of NC function and data interface, which includes NC program decoding, tool compensation and mathematics process. In this paper, the whole soft CNC system is constructed based on the functional requirement of 5-axis machining. The real time NC data pre-process function and interface function is discussed in details. Furthermore, some key technology of 5-axis interpolation is studied.1. The whole soft CNC system is designed based on the basic function of 5-axis machine. The system design includes the modulization of real time motion controller, the definition of communication interface between modules, and software platform design for CNC system2. The function of NC data pre-process module is analyzed and developed. The tool length compensation for 5-axis machining is studied.3. The interface for 5-axis CNC system is realized based on the reference of current advanced CNC function. Each main model in NC machining is elaborated.4. To eliminate the drawback of segmentation and enormous data transmission between CAM and NC unit & non-linear motion error in 5-axis milling machine, the paper presents a double NURBS format for 5-axis interpolation, and brings forward a constant federate control interpolating algorithm for the data format.5. The research outcome have been applied successfully to the product---SE305M which is granted by Key program of Shanghai Science committee"Reasearch and Application of low cost embedded Open structure motion controller".
