| China is the largest producer of Chinese herb medicine in the world. Chinese herb medicine has the great potential to become one of the most important industries in the international market. However, Chinese herb medicine was produced and processed in the small scale and lack the state standards , so that China often has to face the setback because of exceeding of the standards of heavy metal according to the food standards of Europe in Chinese herb medicine in the international market. To reduce the content of heavy metals in Chinese herb medicine can promote Chinese herb medicine to enter the international market.In order to reducing the heavy metal in the soil where the Chinese traditional medicine is grown , the attapulgite which is abundant as a kind of mineral resources in Gansu province of China can be used as the soil improver. Attapulgite can absorb the heavy metal in the contaminated soils, reduce the heavy metal in the Chinese traditional medicine.Attapulgite is the clay mineral of silicate and chain structure being rich in Mg and Al. As it's unique crystal structure, it has many special qualities, such as adsorption, large surface area and dispersion. After modified, the absorbing ability of the modified attapulgite improved greatly, especially for methylene blue and heavy metal, such as Cu2+.It will be the great significance in industry and agriculture.As the soil improver, it is feasibility to control the heavy metal contamination of the land with the attapulgite. But so far, there exists a problem that is recycling use. In this article, attapulgite was made into super-absorbent composite by increasing the volume of attapulgite, so that it will be possible for reuse. The experiment showed that the granular modified attapulgite had not only the stability shape, but also high adsorption capacity. Attapulgite with the adsorbing capacity of the heavy metal in the contaminated soil, could be imposed on the soil to treat the contaminated soil.
