As a key part of hoist , transportation and bearing equipment, the steel rope is widely used in a lot of engineering fields, the security is one of the most important problems during its use. This research is put forward by the need of real-time on-line detection of steel rope. On the base of analyzing and discussing the domestic and foreign research in steel rope detection and the principle of electromagnetic detection, this paper sets up the detection system and develops the software for detecting the faults of the steel rope.The main contents of the paper are as following:1. A hardware platform has been established for the detection of steel rope ,which can pick-up the detection signal.2. Software MATLAB is used for the analysis of the detection signal, and the characteristics of steel rope faults are found.3. The data of the faults is analyzed, and the method for getting the amount of the faults is presented.4. A software for steel rope fault detection is developed by using Visual C++.A lot of experiments are done to test the system performance. Experiments prove that the result of signal analysis accords with the fact basically, which shows the system developed by this paper can be used to steel rope non—destructive testing, and it has a higher value in the reality of engineering.Finally, research work is summarized, expectation and assumption are put forward for further research.
