How to develop and utilize zinc oxide mine resources becomes a very important research project. Expects do the research from different angles and want to resolve the difference of choosing zinc oxide. The floatation mechanism of zinc oxide when heated and vulcanized is studied. The mechanism of high efficient collecting agent CA and YXL agent are researched. The new method how to reduce the bad effects of sludge is discussed. And a series of experiments are carried out.The main mineral of zinc oxide is smithsonite and gangue minerals of kaoline, calcite and quartz. Monomineral flotation experiments, artificial mixed mineral flotation experiments and zinc oxide mineral flotation experiments about zinc oxide were done. Throughout contact angles, electrokinetic potential, absorbance and IR results, we discussed the mechanism of action about agents and mineral.Flotation of smithsonite while heated and vulcanized the best pH range of vulcanization is 7 to 12. The best effect of flotation appears when the does of agents of CA and YXL is 2:1. The smaller of particles of sludge, the higher influence on floating upward rate. Though a small amount of sodium hexametahposphate can restrain the effect of sludge, we must control dosage strictly. The dynamic formula in the process of vulcanized and heated can be deduced according to experimental results. The absorption of collecting agent is promoted. The N-in CA reagents take part in chemical binding on smithsonite surface and the hydrophobic chelate is formed through the reaction of the N- in reagent with a zinc ion on mineral surface. YXL agent and smithsonite react and form hydrophobic Zn (OOCR)2 while chemical absorption is taking place on the surface of smithsonite.
