For a zinc oxide ore the problems in the actual production site,a large number of soluble salt and clay mud, returning water and the accumulation of residual drug ion, formed a complex environment, affecting the flotation pulp solution of mineral flotation. On the basis of the effect of metal ions on mineral surface properties, the influence of metal ions on flotation behavior of zinc oxide-flotation system was systematically studied in this paper.Based on smithsonite, calcite and quartz mineral flotation test. The effect of solution environment(the pH and type and amount of metal ions)on flotation behavior were investigated.By measurement of adsorption quantity of metal ions and agent, mineral surface XPS,zeta potential, the effect of metal ions on the surface properties of minerals and adsorption characteristics of mineral surface to agents were studied. The conclusions were as follows:Study on the dissolution behavior of smithsonite, calcite and quartz three kinds of minerals. The results show that: within pH scope from 7 to 13,the quartz was almost insoluble;the quantity of dissolved ions of smithsonite and calcite all presented a downtrend with the increase of pH value, while the former was higher than the latter. The XPS test results showed that Zn2+,Ca2+,Mg2+ and Fe3+ in smithsonite and calcite and quartz mineral surface can be detected, that is to say, metal ions on mineral surface was chemical adsorption.Study on Zn2+,Ca2+,Mg2+and Fe3+ on smithsonite, calcite and quartz mineral surface adsorption behavior. The results show that: Fe3+,Ca2+ and Mg2+ decreases the adsorption capacity of smithsonite surface;Fe3+,Zn2+ and Mg2+ decreases the adsorption capacity of calcite surface;Zn2+,Fe3+,Ca2+ and Mg2+ decreases the adsorption capacity of quartz surface. The results of Zeta potential showed that: Ca2+ has little effect on smithsonite, calcite and quartz mineral surface potential,Zn2+、Fe3+ and Mg2+ change the zero point of mineral surface under certain conditions.Study on the effect of metal ions on the mineral flotation behavior,to flotation system of Zinc Oxide, the increase of the concentration of Zn2+ is helpful to the flotation of smithsonite,Fe3+,Mg2+ and Ca2+ promote the flotation of smithsonite at low concentrations. When the concentration of Fe3+ is greater than 0.05mmol/L and Ca2+ and Mg2+ are greater than 0.1mmol/L,it has obvious inhibitory effect on flotation. For gangue minerals,Fe3+,Mg2+,Ca2+ and Zn2+ can promote the flotation of the calcite and quartz at a low concentration. When the concentration of metal ions are greater than 0.1mmol/L,it has obviously inhibitory effect on flotation. The test results of the adsorption capacity of collector dodecylamine on mineral surface: the activation effect of metal ions on mineral flotation is to promote the adsorption of dodecylamine on the mineral surface.
