Welding is needed in space station assembly, ocean project construction and nuclear power equipment repairing. Because the construction environment is very bad, the remote welding must be applied. The technology of virtual teaching system for remote welding robot is researched in this paper.After briefly review the development status of teaching technology in the world, the blue print of virtual teaching system for remote welding robot. The SolidWorks software is selected as the system's running platform; there are two modeling method: entirety parameter modeling and modification parameter modeling, the two methods is discussed in this paper, and the key technology as well as the detail step of custom development based on SolidWorks is studied. In order to satisfy the basic requirement of virtual teaching and simulation, the Solid model of the welding robot is established by SolidWorks. The software system is divided into three basic modules by its function, such as welding robot device modeling, the path plan and the motion simulation. The system also establishes the characteristic model of the welding line. On the foundation of the above works, kinematic function of welding robot model is planed, and the main module and the basic frame of the virtual teaching system for remote welding robot is developed by Visual C++6.0. In this system, the user can use the friendly interface to set and adjust the parameters of the remote welding robot and the work piece, such as the position and attitude, as well as the motion path.According to the need of virtual teaching system for remote welding robot, a suit of leader device is designed and developed, to guide the virtual welding device established by SolidWorks above; moreover, the program design is accomplished to implement the function module of identification and display the key, inputting and outputting the parameter, and the transmission between PC and SCM. As the external input/output device for guiding the remote welding robot, it makes the user's manipulation more easily.Users can analysis the motion parameter visually by the motion curve of the remote welding robot supplied by the virtual teaching system, and then, the users can adjust the parameter according to the practical condition, until the teaching achieve the best result. The system provides the user a better telepresence of true 3D virtual environment by the SolidWorks running platform. It will promote the application of the robot technology in practical using.
