The software has been developed to calculate some key parameters of the coking drums—the coke height, the condensing vapors velocity and the foam height etc. These parameters can be obtained based on the structure and the operation data of the coking unit. The software with the agreement between the calculated and measured values can be profitable for the field operation.Based on the field operation data of the coking unit, the relation between the coke yield and the feed properties and the relation between the corrected value of the calculated coke height and the feed flow, the outlet temperature of the furnace tubes have been dissected. These conclusions have provided the theory bases for the calculation of the coke height.Through analyzing the variation of the wall temperatures of the coke drum with time in the production cycle, the conceptions of the reaction layer temperature and the initial temperature of the stiff coking have been put forward, and the new coke formation model has been developed. These conceptions and model have laid the foundations of further perfecting the temperature field model and more accurately calculating the coke height in the coke drums.
