Recently there is a great interest in low-dimensional coordination polymers, which are constructed by using di- or polynuclear trasition metal complexes containing metal-metal bond as building precursors, due to their unusual photochemical, electrochemical and catalytic properties. They have become one active field for both inorganic and material chemistry. In such works, the studies for the dinuclear compounds have been well developed and understood. The obtained result indicated that these di- or polynuclear transition-metal compounds are fine"building blocks"to construct one-dimensional supramolecules and polymers. The studies of this field are mainly focused on the construction of coordinated supramolecules while the efforts to synthesize polymer are still in progress. The coordination model and the structure of [(PhPPy2)2PdCuCl2]ClO4·2CH3CN were characterized in detail. Based upon these works, a new dinuclear copper(Ι) complex, which has linear and rigid structures, was designed and synthesized. In this complex, the axial ligands are quite active, and easy to be replaced by other ligands. A direct reaction of PhPPy2 (bis(2-pyridyl)phenylphosphine) as ligand with [Cu (CH3CN)4] ClO4 as raw material, led to the preparation of the dinuclear complex [Cu2(μ-PhPPy2)2(CH3CN)2](ClO4)2. In this dinuclear complex, two copper atoms are collinear with two coordinated acetonitrile molecules. The experiments indicated that the axial CH3CN molecules can be replaced by Cl- ions easily, and form a new dinuclear complex Cu2(μ-PhPPy2)2Cl2.Using [Cu2(μ-PhPPy2)2(CH3CN)2](ClO4)2 as"building blocks"and SO42- as linker, one-dimensional polymer [Cu2(μ-PhPPy2)2(μ-SO4)]∞had been synthesized. The photoluminescent properties, the structural and spectral characters of it were already studied. The result we have gotten provides a new approach to synthesize low dimensional coordination polymers.
