The wastewater discharged from a Chemical Corperation contains high concentration of toxic organic contaminants and salinity. It is a typical chemical industrial wastewater and can not be treated effectively by traditional processes. The result of an experimental investigation and analysis of the wastewater showed that some pollutants contained in the wastewater can be recycled and reused in the production process. A comprehensive treatment scheme, consisting of resources recycling, physico-chemical pretreatment, biological processes and ecological treatment of the wastewater, was proposed consequently. The main results are:(1) The content of DMF in the wastewater from workshop II is as high as 12% and can be recycled by solvent extraction. The recovery of DMF is larger than 80% and the content of recycled DMF achieved 98 % by GC analysis.(2) For the high acidic chemical wastewater, COD and color could be effectively removed by inner-electrolysis pretreatment. Meanwhile, the biodegradability (B/C) of the wastewater was greatly improved.(3) Base on the lab experimental results, a wastewater treatment is proposed as: DMF recycling—inner-electrolysis pretreatment—hydrolysis & acidification—UASB—bio-contact oxidation—constructed wetland. The feature of the schceme is the combination of physic-chemical method and biochemical process. The fundamental designing of this project has been completed.
