Combing is the critical process to improve the yarn quality in the cotton spinning engineering. With the unceasing requirement of yarn quality in the domestic and foreign markets, the position of combing process appeared more important than ever. Studying high-efficacy comb has been the important subject in cotton textile machinery. Nipper drive mechanism is the main drive mechanism of the comb and the main problems in the existing comb are the huge impact force, vibration and noise produced by the high-speed and reciprocating swinging nipper module. Therefore, carrying on the optimum design based on the nipper mechanism, reducing the weight of the nipper and decreasing the force of inertial and moment of inertia, are the keys to raise the comb speed.This article firstly summarizes the background of this research, the development history and the technical characteristic of the existing comber at home and abroad, as well as the comb's process and technique. By the analysis of typical nipper drive mechanism on drive principle and mechanism type, this paper designs three approaches for the nipper drive mechanism, then adopt the slider-crank mechanism after analysis and comparison. It establishes functional relationship according to the cooperative movements and analyzes the motion characteristics of the mechanism, then obtain the kinematics law of nipper balance staff. Analyzing the effect on the motion characteristics by crank radius, It draws a conclusion that it can decrease the maximum acceleration and impact force by shortening crank radius appropriately, and determine the optimization direction of crank radius. It carries on the modeling simulation by Pro/Engineer and obtains the motion characteristics of the nipper, to lay a foundation of nipper mechanism's dynamic design. Based on this, this paper designs the plan of comb electricity automation control system, elaborating separately on the automation control system's hardware design and the software design, to lay a foundation of the research on automatic comb.
