This paper has studied systematically the effects of the inside diameter, the shape of the side holes, the immerging depth and the outlet angle on the velocity and temperature distribution of molten steel in submerged entry nozzle (SEN) of double-side holes and mould, according to the continuous caster of the steelmaking factory of Handan Iron and Steel Company, using water model and mathematical simulation. Sequentially, optimal combination of the shape of the side holes, the inside diameter, the immerging depth and the outlet angle was achieved. This paper will not only perfect the research method of flow and temperature field, but also tell Handan Iron and Steel Company why and how to adjust continuous casting parameters.First commercial program PHOENICS3.4 was applied to the continuous casting process and a mathematical simulation eatablished. This paper investigated the velocity and temperature distribution of molten steel in mould by three dimensionsκ?εmodel simulation.A 0.5-scale water model based on Froude number similitude criteria was setup to study the effect of SEN structure on the fluid flow in the mould. It was found that, the elementary feature of flow and temperature field does not changed, but the state of flow and temperature field changed while the outlet angle altered. Nicety and reliability of PHOENICS3.4 was validating, in order to even more simulate the velocity and temperature distribution of molten steel in mould.Through systematically investigating the technical parameter of SEN, tow important results were found. The results are as follows. (1) Optimal structure parameter combination of SEN is the inside diameter 63.75mm,the shape of the side holes 60×65mm2,the immerging depth 120mm and the outlet angle 15o. (2) Perfecting the research system methods of flow and temperature field.Nicety and reliability of optimal structure parameter combination of SEN was validated by water model. As a result, consequence optimized is right and reliable.
