During the thin slab continuous casting process, the condition of the molten steel flow has a great influence upon not only heat transfer and inclusions floatation, but also many surface problems such as crack, crimple, segregation etc. and internal quality. So, it is greatly importance that making research on the fluid flow and heat transfer in the thin slab continuous casting mold. Parameters of submerged entry nozzle (SEN) affect productivity and the quality of products by influencing the velocity and temperature distribution of molten steel in mold. So it is of great importance to study SEN. As present trends of the development of numerical simulation, this technology is applied to the study on the molten steel flow condition and heat transfer in the continuous casting mold.The FTSC thin slab continuous caster of Tang Shan Iron and Steel Company is researched in this paper, according to the technological parameters of continuous casting applied by hot-rolled sheet plant, the three-dimensional mathematical model which coupled the molten steel flow with heat transfer is established by adopting the simulation software FLUENT. Under the conditions of different technological parameters such as structure shape and top outlet rake angle of nozzle, casting speed, submergence depth, the distribution of the molten steel flow field and temperature field in FTSC continuous casting mold, here are the main conclusions.In this best scheme, the influence of several different nozzle structures on the flow field and temperature field in the mold is researched. And finally, five-port nozzle whose top port rake angle is around 15°.The technological parameters are adjusted based on present production conditions. On the conditions of the different casting speed and submergence depth, the flow field and temperature field in mold are analyzed, the suitable scheme for continuous casting mold of Tang Shan Iron and Steel Company is confirmed, and here are the best technological parameters in actual operation: the casting speed is around 5m/min and the submergence depth is 160~175mm. Analyse results of numerical simulation shows that, comparing with present four-outlet nozzle, the five-outlet is more suitable for FTSC continuous casting mold of Tang Shan Iron and Steel Company.
