The CNC Gear Shaper can control its generating movement, and change any instantaneous drive-ratio arbitrarily, which provides hardware guarantee for digital tooth surface machining and error compensation. However, because of the lack of relative software offered by the machine tool, this advantage is limited. In order to extend the function of CNC Gear Shaper and improve its machining precision, researches on digital tooth surface machining and error compensation of CNC Gear Shaper are conducted in this thesis, which is based on the theory of digital conjugate surface and error compensation.Research on the theory and method of digital tooth surface machining is carried out through the combination of the digital conjugate surface theory and the actual gear shaping process, so to develop the method of manufacturing the digital tooth surface and establish the gear-shaping model for digital tooth surface. This research is a theoretic and methodological guidance for digital tooth surface machining of CNC Gear Shaper.According to the gear shaping theory of digital gear surface, research on theory and experiment of CNC shaping modification is conducted. Solutions are proposed aimed at the interference phenomenon in the machining process. The author carried out the experiment of CNC shaping modification and machined modification gears with various modification curves successfully. The results verify the feasibility and validity of the CNC shaping modification method.The strategy of error compensation based on work-piece measuring is proposed by the research on theory and experiment of error compensation for CNC shaping machining. According to the characteristics of CNC shaping machine and the application demands of gear, the theory and method of error compensation for tooth profile error and cumulative pitch error is emphatically studied. The experiment of error compensation on CNC gear shaper shows that the precision of gears can be efficiently improved by using the software error compensation. Therefore, the validity of error compensation method proposed in this thesis is proved.A function module for CNC gear shaper, which can be used in the prevalent CNC systems and create CNC code automatically for digital tooth surface machining as well as error compensation, is developed.
