The measure of sustainable development has always been a key field of sustainable development studying, whose core is whether the human load stay within global carrying capacity or not. This paper assessed the sustainable development of hi-tech zone, synthetically using the model of ecological footprint from the angle of quantitative monitoring. M.Wackernagel etc. presented and improved a model of ecological footprint, and it is a new synthetical index of measuring the impact of human's consumption on ecosystem. We can get a result through comparing the data between the area of consumed for productive plant and the area of supplied for productive plant. The result can help to judge that the development is in the extension of carrying capacity or not.Based on the theory of ecological footprint, this paper counted the relevant data of hi-tech zone in chengdu city in 2005, and the consumption is estimated which includes the ecological carrying capacity, ecological footprint of the citizen and enterprises in industrial zone individually according to the characters of hi-tech zone. The citizen's footprint is counted through the consumption accounts of living, fuel, water, garbage, traffic and housing, and the enterprise's footprint is calculated through the accounts of coving, material, pollution, fuel, water and traffic. Through analysis of ecological footprint quantity, the paper draws the following conclusions:â‘ . For the citizen's ecological footprint: The citizens have a great ecological deficit, and the fossil fuel land contributes the most, which indicates the resource-gap resulted from the improvement of citizen's living. The citizen's consumption is mainly with living and fuel. According to the calculation, arable and fossil fuel land have the major proportion in the composition of citizen's ecological footprint, with the proportion 51% and 28.44% individually and about 80% totally.â‘¡.For the enterprise's ecological footprint: According to the composition of enterprise's ecological footprint, fossil fuel land has the proportion 99.78762%, with fuel and material footprint as two main parts, which accounts for 97.67% and 2.22% individually, so the change of the consumption of the fuel and material will have direct impact on the enterprise's ecological footprint. The enterprises ecological footprint is 17.92 times the citizen's ecological footprint, which indicates that the production of the enterprises in the industrial zone of the hi-tech zone may be high demand and high consumption of the resource. The enterprise's production and trade among regions lead to the shift of enterprise's ecological footprint inter-regions, with the proportion calculated within and outside regions 0.31% and 99.69% individually, which indicates the enterprises ecological responsibility, ecological influence and ecological stress among regions in the world, so the development of enterprises may have profound impacts on global environments. The enterprises output of 1 hm~2 ecological footprint is 1.459 times the citizen's ecological footprint, 88.46% that of the world. It indicates the high efficiency of enterprises in the industrial zone of the hi-tech zone and the big gap with the world.â‘¢. For the ecological footprint of the hi-tech zone as a whole: The result indicated great ecological deficit in hi-tech zone of chengdu city in 2005 although the estimation is conservative. At the same time, the proportion of Fossil fuel in the aggregate demand of ecological footprint is far more than arable, pasture, forest, built-up areas and sea, which indicates the low diversity of the ecological footprint in hi-tech zone of chengdu city in 2005.Based on the result of above analysis, the paper has proposed such suggestion only for consulting of the respect as paying attention to the improvement of the engineering level, paying attention to the industrial structure adjustment, stick implementation of family planning, strengthening the management of the enterprise's environment and purifying the internal recirculation of enterprises in industrial zone etc..
