Parallel machine tool (PMT) , a new-style NC machine tool ,integrates mechanism, robotic technology and NC technology into a coherent whole. Comparing to traditional machine tool, it has the unique feature.As a new-style 5-DOF parallel machine tool, 5UPS/PRPU can process any complicated surfaces.From the application perspective of PMT, the problem of cutter location file generated in the Cimatron CAD/CAM system that is translated into the code identified by PMT NC system is studied, in order to solve the difficult programming problem of PMT spatial free-form surface and improve the machining efficiency. The main contributions are as follows:Kinematics model of PMT and the orientation description method of the mobile platform are introduced. The character of NC machine and machining technique character of PMT is analyzed. In the data processing, a serials of algorithm including cutter location interpolation, coordination system transform, kinematics decompose, and interference detection, etc are studied.The design principle, function, general structure and process of post- processing for 5-UPS/PRPU PMT are introduced. The post-processor of Cimatron and the function and structure of post-processing system of PMT are analyzed. The general structure of post-processing system oriented 5-UPS/PRPU PMT is put forward. At the same time, the information flow and key algorithm of the post-processing system software is presented.At last, the author develops the post-processing system oriented Cimatron by Visual Basic, simulates the process of free-form surface by Adams, and verify the accuracy of the post-processing system.
