Ammonia pollution has become the main problem of water pollution, and poultry wastewater is one of the important sources. Currently a large number of piggery wastewater has not an effective recycling or treatment but is emitted directly, which causes a serious environmental pollution. Poultry wastewater has the typical "three high" characteristic : CODCr up to 5000~20000mg/L, Ammonia 1000~5000mg/l, SS exceeded several times. At present, treating piggery wastewater mainly adapt anaerobic digestion and aerobic digestion process. Whereas, due to the fact that more oxygen is consumed, plus organic carbon,and the bad treatment effect , it is unfit to remove nitrogen from this kind of high ammonia wastewater by the conventional nitrification-denitrification treatment.Substantial theoretical and experimental research indicate that ANAMMOX in terms of economy, operation, or nitrogen removal indicates higher value and development potential. Based on the latest research findings on biological nitrogen removal on low C/N ratio and high strength ammonia wastewater in both domestic and abroad, this study treating piggery wastewater by ANAMMOX . ANAMMOX was studied in anaerobic SBR reactor with anaerobic sludge as inoculating sludge. Moreover, in high - and low-load conditions, the start-up of ANAMMOX reactor is studied comparatively, exploring the feasibility and effect. The main research achievements are as follows:1. ANAMMOX is adopted to treat the piggery wastewater, inoculating anaerobic sludge. After nearly five months operation, the start-up of ANAMMOX is tried, and the ammonia removal has steady upward tendency. It indicats the possibility of ANAMMOX for treating the high strength ammonia wastewater like piggery wastewater;2. In the course of experiment, the highest ammonia and nitrite's removal rates of the high -and low-load reactor is 90.80% , 89.38% and 92.94%, 93.06%;3. High load start-up method is propitious to achieve the rapid increase on the removal of load in a short term, enhance the start-up speed., which has more obvious advantages than low load start-up method in the process of ANAMMOX.4. Excessive nitrite,organic is inhibiting to ANAMMOX process.
