Research On Structure Property Analysis And Product Design Of Molded Pulp Cushion

Molded pulp products are made of paper fiber or plant fiber by pulping, molding, drying and reforming. Molded pulp cushion is an application of molded pulp product in packaging. Owing to its good environmental and cushioning properties, molded pulp cushion is widely used in industrial packaging, such as consumer products. As lack of theory, molded pulp cushion design is completely based on experiences. As a result, it is common that molded pulp cushion is designed by over-using materials or fails in test.This paper, which focuses on a design method of molded pulp cushion based on properties of molded pulp structure units and module design idea, mainly includes:(1) On the basis of research on molded pulp material and molded pulp structure units, ANSYS/LS-DYNA is used to simulate static-compression test of structure units. The creation of geometry model and FEA model is discussed besides the factors of numerical simulation results. Furthermore, a general rheological model of nonlinear elastic viscoplasticity was developed for molded pulp material.(2) A research of molded pulp structure units and cushion on mechanics and relationship between structural factors is carried out by means of numerical simulation, static-compression test and data analysis theory. The relationship of maximum loading and structure dimensions of both truncated cone unit and wedge unit is found. Besides, the relationship of molded pulp cushion property and structure dimensions is also found.(3) On the basis of research on molded pulp structure units and cushion property, a modular design method, which includes positioning structure and cushioning structure, is developed with packaging cushion theory and design experiences.The achievements of this paper could be taken as a reference of molded pulp cushion design. And the design methods of molded pulp cushion could be applied in product design.
