Laser surface hardening as an advanced manufacturing and re-manufacturing technical method is being used more and more in the fields of materials and parts hardening, modification, repair, and so on. This paper emphasis on the laser surface hardening of the rail vehicle components coupler which is easy to wear used the finite element method to simulate the temperature and thermal stress field of laser surface hardening. Laser surface hardening by the impact of a variety of parameters and with a feature of sudden heating and sudden cold, resulting in difficult to directly measure the instantaneous temperature and thermal stress distribution with an experiment way;On the other hand, it is needed to forecast temperature and thermal stress distribution used the numerical methods in the processing of application. In this paper, using the finite element analysis software ANSYS and emphasis on the coupler surface hardening, to simulate and analyze the temperature and thermal stress of laser phase transformation hardening and laser cladding with the coupler material. The main contents are as followers:1.The relevant mechanism of laser phase transformation hardening and laser cladding is researched, as well as the technology of the heat source model of numerical simulation, the latent heat of phase transformation and meshing.2. The changed law of temperature and thermal stress field in the laser phase transformation hardening is simulated and analyzed, the effect of laser process parameters to laser phase transformation hardening is mainly caculated and analyzed.3. The pre-placed laser cladding and synchronization powder feeding laser cladding are simulated and analyzed, as well as the comparison of the law of their temperature field changes. The effect of laser process parameters to laser cladding is analyzed and the corresponding experimental verification is performed.4. The changes of laser phase transformation hardening and laser cladding of the end pin hole of coupler are numerical simulated with the coupler as a specific object. The effect of different ways of scanning to laser phase transformation hardening is mainly analyzed, as well as the comparison of the different cladding effect with the cylinder hole surface and laser beam at different angles.The simulation results accord with the law of laser surface hardening, can be used to predict the process results of laser surface hardening in the process of the coupler reproducing, and applied to the reproducing process optimization.
