The low temperature coal-tar includes many precious compound, but at the present it is often selled as the liquid fuel in the market, this creates enormous waste to the resources. A more mature processing method of low-temperature coal-tar is the hydrogenation refining craft, but this craft has a lot of limitations, its request scale of production is big, the processing cost is too high. The reasonable separation process of low temperature coal-tar was caused recognition of goverment and numerous enterprises day by day, the related technical questions becomes also to be solved urgently. To further understand the related policy, the craft, the output as well as the existence question of the low temperature coal-tar production before conducting this topic research. Investigation and study on the main model producing areas have been carried to familiar with its related basic situation. The typical low temperature coal-tar samples were taken form Shenmu and Datong as the objects of study. By the routine analysis, the basic properties of the low temperature coal-tar were understood. Because the low temperature coal-tar products contents a few water, dehydration has to be carry out to process the coal-tar .The azeotropic distillation method for dehydration was reference to the high temperature coal-tar processing, and has achieved the expectation effect. This soda wash method to extract phenol compounds was researched and the prefered wash conditions were obtained that is soda concentration 15% , the temperature 60℃and first 30% then 70% lye quantity to extraction. Thus this article provides the reference for the dehydration and the phenols extraction processing for low temperature coal-tar.
