Coal tar is a liquid product obtained by coal, it is a very valuable resource. A rough estimate of the amount of coal tar production to more than20million tons a year, its composition is very complex, the light component is mainly composed of fused ring aromatic hydrocarbons, after separation and purification, can get many high value-added fine chemicals. Heavy ingredient is coal tar pitch, is the production of needle coke, carbon fiber, mesophase carbon microbeads, carbon molecular sieve, carbon anode materials and high-performance road asphalt important raw materials and precursors. The medium and low temperature coal tar is a byproduct of low-temperature Carbonization of coal production of char and gas, and high temperature coal tar has the very-big difference, high temperature coal tar and medium temperature coal tar has more research, but the study on the relative lack of low temperature coal tar. Compared to the high temperature coal tar, the oil and the content of phenolic compounds in the low temperature coal tar is higher. Phenolic is a moderate-intensity chemical poisons, for coal tar composition, toxicity was in the order of heterocyclic compounds, phenolic compounds, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, but it’s very versatile, it is a kind of compounds with high added value, if isolated from these valuable chemical intermediates, can be processed to obtain valuable chemical products, such as plastics, adhesives, dyes intermediates.valuable chemical products, such as plastics, adhesives. dyes intermediates, it can be seen in the low-temperature coal tar rich in a large number of highly valuable industrial chemical products,so the more understanding of the medium and low temperature coal tar. including the analysis of the basic composition and the structure of it, which will have a more efficient and rational use of low-temperature coal tar to provide proper guidance effect.This paper mainly on the following three aspects:(1) Our experimental material is selected from Shanbei regions of low temperature coal tar as the object of study, the method for determination of low temperature coal tar oil in this area is not perfect, so we reference detection mature, basic properties of coking products and the composition of oil and other aspects of the method, obtains the basic properties of low temperature coal tar.(2) Through single factor experiment and the orthogonal experiment analysis, the acid washing process to obtain crude phenol were optimized, the optimum technological conditions:alkali concentration> temperature> mixing time. At the same time, the product composition is analysed by GC-MS. (3) The crude phenol obtained in distillation column separated by vacuum distillation to obtain a certain purity lower phenol. At the same time, using the PROII simulation software to simulate the crude phenol distillation, in order to get the distillation tower design parameters.
