High Speed Machining (HSM) is one of the most important and potential advanced manufacturing technologies, which has become the mainstream of processing manufacturing industry gradually. HSM improves the processing efficiency significantly, and reduces the productions costs. HSM requires the tools with excellent cutting performance, and higher performance and precision of tool connecting system. Therefore, the study of tool connecting system is helpful to the popularization and application of HSM.The theoretical system and the development trend of HSM are introduced, the research status of HSM tool systems is described, and the domestic and foreign HSM tools which are mainly used nowadays are presented.HSK tool system is researched by the means of the theoretical analysis, equilibrium equations, elastic constitutive equations, geometric equations, and boundary conditions are set up with the application of elastic-plastic mechanics theory, as the same time, the theoretical analysis model of HSK tool system is also established, which is used to computer the deformation and calculate the limit speed of the tool system.The variation of contact stress as the change of the clamping force, the interferences, and the rotational speed with finite element methods, and the reliability of tool system with reliability analysis methods are studied. The variation of contact stress is summarized, and the reliability coefficient of the tool system is calculated.
