Laser processing technology has been widely used in automotive BIW manufacturing, laser cutting and welding gradually become the standard process. Three-dimensional laser cutting technology which can replace punch die and trimming die in the stamping process, not only the quantity of die is decreased, the cost of die design and manufacture is reduced, but also the design cycle of a new car is greatly shorted; laser welding technology which can replace the resistance spot welding in BIW assembly, not only the consumption of body material and body weight is reduced, but also the strength and stiffness of the body is greatly improved, and the safety of the body is improved. The main study in this paper is the overall layout design about BIW laser cutting and welding production line, and three-dimensional laser cutting process studying of the laser cutting unit in the production line.First, the Structure and process of car door are analyzed, which is the object of study in this Production line, the two Welding methods were introduced; the major equipment which in laser cutting and welding unit are selected, then based on flexible and safety considerations of the production line, the overall layout of the production line is designed.Second, the principle and the main cutting way of laser cutting are discussed, Gravity,Radius of curvature and Workpiece cooling are the three important factors which impact the three-dimensional laser cutting are cited and explained; the main programming method and its processes of the three-dimensional laser cutting are discussed; Cutting head collision, workpiece deformation, and corner burning, which are the three main difficulties in three-dimensional laser cutting are Putted forward, and their Solution are given.Finally, three-dimensional laser cutting process are carried out in-depth research, orthogonal experiments are designed, several major factors which impact the quality of the three-dimensional laser cutting are Selected, that is type of laser, laser power, cutting speed, gas type and pressure, and kerf width, cutting surface roughness, dross are selected to evaluate the quality of laser cutting. Based on the analysis of experiment data, the rules which influence the cutting quality are obtained, which provide an effective method to resolve the problem of corner burning.
