How to discharge the heat to the environment from the luminaire is an important issue in luminaire design. In this paper we use ANSYS software to analyze thermal-sturcture of the sorce and electrical system in luminaire. Grasp the changing rule of the thermal property in luminaire. This rule can give us the basis in luminaire structure design and thermal test. Depend on the result of the analysis, the luminaire structure is changed. Luminaire housing with a lamp compartment and ballast compartment that are isolated from each other is provided. The housing includes a lamp compartment, a ballast compartment, and an air gap chamber separating the two compartments from each other. The air gap chamber provides a degree of thermal isolation that reduces the amount of heat generated by the lamps that is transferred from the lamp compartment to the ballast compartment, thereby improving the lifespan and performance of the ballast. This project has been succeeded to be put into the market and it uses shorter time and lower cost in design than normal projects. It also gets the patent in usage area.
