The technology of turn-milling is an advanced technology in the machining field in nowadays. As a result of the higher machining efficiency and the better workpiece quality, it has gained more and more favour. As a new process way, turn-milling's rules are not as clear as other traditional processing ways; it has impeded the promotion and application of turn-milling. The quality of the surface of turn-milling is also an important component of basic research in turn-milling. So it is necessary to investigate the rules of turn-milling in order to choose reasonable processing parameters. In this paper a variety of metal materials for turn-milling experiments have been done, and analyzed deeply the relation between cutting regimes and surface roughness , and the quality and the property of surface residual stress in theory. So it will be a reasonable basis for choosing cutting regimes in order to improve the productivity and machined surface quality. At the same time, it can aim at guiding the practical manufacture. The orthogonal experiments for turn-milling have been done, and analyzed the nexus between surface roughness and cutting regime in machining ZL101 by orthogonal turn-milling. It was shown that the axial feed has a prominent impact on surface roughness, followed by cutter rotate speed (cutting speed), work piece rotate speed and eccentricity. The predictive model for surface roughness has been established through regression analysis.Adopting orthogonal experiment method cutting experiments of orthogonal turn-milling ZL101 have been done. The relation between turn-milling regimes and machined surface roughness has been ascertained. According to the results statistical test it was indicated that the predictive model for surface roughness was in highly notable test status and has a highly reliability. The single factor orthogonal turn-milling experiments have been done. The influence law of cutting speed v and axial feed fa on workpiece of surface residual stress was researched and analyzed theoretically, when orthogonal turn-milling was done on 65# steel. At the same time, the surface residual stress of turn-milling was compared with general turning. When cutting speed v increased, the surface residual drawing stress of workpiece decreased quickly. And when v was beyond to a critical value, the surface residual drawing stress of workpiece was decreased quickly and the surface residual stress of workpiece became the residual compressive stress. When fa increased, the surface residual compressive stress of workpiece decreased. Finally, cutting speed and axial feed are confirmed as optimization variable in turn-milling and restrict equation was erected. Single goal equation of the highest of productivity and the least of production cost were founded. And double goals functional equation of production cost and productivity was educed.
