In this paper, taking the EBZ 160 Roadheader as the research object, we have paid our attention to the following points:First, the analysis on the EBZ 160 Roadheader have been conducted from the aspects of the main structure, basic parameter, working principle, working process, and typical working situation. After that the force situation and stability of the Roadheader as a whole and the force situation of the expansion internal cutting arm under the typical working condition have been analyzed. On the basis of this, the three-dimension model and the finite element analysis model for the cutting arm through the software Solidworks have been donstructed. The core point of the paper is that finite analysis through the software COSMOS on the expansion protective canister, expansion external canister, expansion internal canister, floating airproof frame, cutting head spindle, etc. By doing this, the stress and distortion situation of the key components can be get. Through the finite element analysis, we find that, generally speaking, the design of the cutting arm is reasonable. It can meet the requirement. However, the weak point can be found as well. This paper tries to deal with the problem of the over distortion of the bolt hole in the joined position of the expansion protective canister and the forward oil jar, and make the improvement of the hydraulic pressure oil jar through the model. In the end, the finite element analysis have been carried out again to prove the problem of the over distortion has been solved. The research has tried to make the improvement on the structure of the cutting arm. It can be used as the reference of the Roadheader analysis and the design of the expansion internal cutting arm.
