Over the past, mechanical control system is usually adopted in traditional multi-bars warp knitting machine. However, it has several disadvantages like production discontinuity and poor automation thereby limiting the product developments and productivity of the warp-knitting machine. The newly developed computerized multi-bar warp knitting machine has overcome those disadvantages, which adopted CAN fieldbus control method with the integration of servo control system. The newly developed control system can largely enhance the possibilities of jacquard patterning. It provides higher patterning feasibility of warp knitted fabrics with improvement of larger extent of automation. The computerized control system becomes the future development and direction in high ends warp knitting industries. The present thesis addresses the current development of multi-bar warp knitting machine in both foreign counties as well as in China, and investigates their differences in technologies and automation. Based on the special characteristics of multi-bar warp knitting machine, with the integration of CAN fieldbus technologies and servo control system, a CAN fieldbus based integrated control system has been designed and detailed investigations have been done regarding its functionalities and control flow. The thesis also demonstrates the theory of electronic yarn let-off, electronic shogging, and piezo technology of the integrated control system.The newly developed integrated control system has been applied on machine type MRES33 EH and MRES43 EH , improving the machine from traditional mechanical control system to fully computerized control system with the integration of electronic yarn let-off, electronic shogging and piezo jacquard. Based on the realistic situation and difficulties faced after machine modification, optimization has been done by verifying the parameters of servo adjustiment with the aid of statistical analysis. The optimization parameters enables the machine to provide satisfactory knitting performance with maximum production speed. At the end, based on the realistic production, we addressed the performance in between the newly developed control system over the traditional control system.Generally speaking, this thesis aimed at investigating the control system of multi-bar warp knitting machine. An integrated control system based on CAN fieldbus was developed, and the system has been successfully applied onto the mechanical multi-bar warp knitting machine. To conclude, the present study help improve the foundation and automation of warp knitting machine in China.
