The accuracy of thickness is one of the two important quality targets of strip production, in recent years, it has huge advancement with the development of rolling theory, control theory, computer technology, and with their application to the rolling process. At present, in order to advance the thickness target of strip production further, not only need a perfect auto gauge control (AGC) system, but also a stable tension control (ATC) system. This paper focuses on the subject of"The technology automation and the designing and debuging of the hydraulic thickness control software of 1450mm five stands tandem cold rolling mill with eight rollers", explores and researches the new pattern of tension control of the subsystem"tension control system of tandem cold rolling mill", which provides some theoretical approaches to practical project.Firstly, this paper introduces the production technology of 1450 five stands tandem cold rolling mill, and analyses the structure and control characteristics of the tension control system, then deduces its mathematical model between stands of the five stands tandem cold rolling mill, based on rolling distortion theory and movement mechanics theory, and constructs dynamic structure diagram of tension control system by changing velocity and tension control system by changing roller gap.Secondly, aims at the tension control system of the tandem cold rolling mill mentioned above, this paper analyses the disadvantages of normal PID control method and the problem in the application on the base of considering incoming thickness fluctuations, rolling speed fluctuations and other unpredictable factors. Through further studying on the characteristics of the tension control system of the tandem cold rolling mill and comparison between the advantages and disadvantages of the various control modes, advances the idea of adopting predictive functional control in tension control system of the tandem cold rolling mill.After a thorough study and comparison, researches on the predictive functional control and the neuron predictive functional control and designs corresponding controllers, the simulation results show that these methods are effective.
