Anti-infrared heat insulation finishing method is a kind of finishing that can reflect most of the solar energy in the infrared region of the solar spectrum, therefore it can prevent the surface temperature of fabrics from being heated up without the consumption of energy. The application significance and heat-insulating mechanism of the solar-reflective heat-insulating fabrics are introduced.Mono-dispersed spherical silicon dioxide particle was prepared by hydrolysis of tetraethoxy silane(TEOS) in alcohol solvents using ammonia as a catalyst, while silica sol of highly cendensated three-dimensional network were obtained with acid as catalyst. Effects of the catalyst, the amount of water, the concentration of ammonia and the temperature of hydrolysis etc.on the particle size and morphology of silicon dioxide were investigated by TEM and FIIR.The results show that the mono-dispersed silicon dioxide spherical particles could be obtained in ethanol solvent. When the concentration of water and TEOS is increased or the temperature of hydrolysis is raised, the particle sizes increase. It can obtain different diameters of silica dioxide under different reaction conditions. Mono-dispersed spherical silicon dioxide particle was prepared by sol-gel method at different diameters and,as anti-infrared heat insulation finishing agent, was treated to cotton fabric by dip padding technique. The relation ship of the depth of the same color and the surface temperature properties of cotton fabric in infrared radiation was studied. And the relationship of the diameter and concentration of spherical silicon dioxide to the surface temperature properties of cotton fabric under infrared radiation was studied, too. The experiments show that deep colour of fabric surface temperature is higher than that of light fabric and spherical silicon dioxide particle can increase the reflex to infrared ray on the surface of cotton fabrics and the surface temperature of cotton fabrics treated with spherical silicon dioxide is lower than that of untreated. It can be concluded that spherical silicon dioxide can be used as a finishing agent to make cotton fabrics have cooling and heat insulation effect under sunlight.
