A online control system for detecting suspended material content in solution was designed and realized in this paper to make the need of industrial automation, especially for alumina industry. In this field ,the method detecting the total of suspended solids (TSS) is still weight method at present. So a fast measurement method must be found to instead it. After comparing with some morden electrical measurement methods and analyzing the properties of aluminum solution, surface scattering light method is considere a best one to detect the TSS.According to the Mie Scattering simulation, the angle distribution of intensity is symmetrical when the wavelength is nearly equal to the diameter and the best detection direction is in vertical to incident. The photons transporting process was simulated with Monte Carlo Method to determine the angle parameters of surface scattering. The results shows thar when incident angle is 50 degree and emergece angle is 40 degree the scattering light intensity has a better linearity with the number of particles in solution, and the varity of it is obvious. Then the contantless sensor device was designed based on the results of simullaion, which can be used in rigorous industry environment. Then ,sample room fixed with sensor device was designed ,and finally ,integral construnction and system circuit were completed .At thr same time, monitor and control softeware was designed using Visuaal Basic soft.Performance test shows that this instrument has a good stabiliy and relative invitations of results to colorless solution is less than 0.5%, Therefore, it is less affected by the color of the silution. On the other hand, its relative invitations to weight method is less than 6%.So it can satisfy the industry need, and can be used in alumina production and other fields.
