We represented a new and innovative approach to the functional finishing of textile materials with the use of the latest developments in nanotechnology.The application of nanotechnology in textile finishing can impart some unique properties and in some cases more superior to the conventional textile finishing treatments.Nanotechnology is a means of adding values to a product and maybe a useful tool for a hard-pressed textiles industry.The application of nanotechnology in textile finishing can introduce some unique properties.We investigated the application of nanotechnology in the areas of anti-UV-radiation protection,anti-bacterial protection,and water & oil repellent protection.We build various functions using nanotechnology.This thesis concerns the following aspects:1) the preparation and synthesis of various functional inorganic nanoparticles,biopolymer-inorganic nanocomposites and organic nanoparticles;2) the application and fabrication of nano-functional cellulose fabric,which possess superior UV-blocking, antibacterial,and water & oil-repellent properties;3) the characterization of nano-structure and nano-particles synthesised or fabricated;4) the characterization of nano scaled structure of cellulose fibres; 5) the performance of nano-functional finished cellulose fabrics and other physical properties;6) further probing nanocomposites applied in multifunctional finishes on the textiles.The TiO2 nanoparticles were prepared by the sol-gel method.And they were applied in the finish of cellulose fibre and the property of UV-blocking was investigated.The chitosan was prepared and applied in the cellulose.Antibacterial property was researched.Then the composites of TiO2/chitosan were prepared.UV-blocking and antibacterial properties of cellulose fabric finished were estimated. SiO2 nanoparticles were prepared by the two-step method,and they were applied in the cellulose fabric to improve the water repellency.Finally,the colour change,the handle and the air-permeability of cellulose fabric were investigated.
