Ion-exchange resins, as one of the most important scientific developments of the 20th century, has recently been subject to extensive research for many practical applications such as water softening, desalination, environmental remediation, wastewater treatment, hydrometallurgy, chromatography, biomolecular separations, and catalysis. In this paper, the resuscitation method of iron ions and organic polluted ion exchange resin was discussed, and ZnS/activated carbon, CdS/resin composite materials were prepared using junked macroporous strong acid cation ion-exchange resin and macroporous strongbasic anion-exchange resin as starting material, respectively. The main contents are summarized as follows:1.The resuscitation method of iron ions and organic polluted ion exchange resin in electroplating wastewater purification was discussed, and the optimal operation parameters were obtained. The infuence of compositions in the resuscitative agents upon the effectiveness of resuscitation has been studied by using orthogonal experimental design and optimization technology, obtaining an optimal prescription of the resuscitative agent. The results show that the common resuscitative agent for slightly polluted cation exchange resins by iron is hydrochloric acid; while in order to fully resuscite highly-polluted anion exchange resins, a mixed solution of HCl-NaCl-Na2SO3 were introduced as resuscitative agent. In addition, by comparing effects of four different resuscitative agents on effectiveness of resuscitation of organic polluted anion resin, optimal resuscitative agent were obtained. After resuscitation, the exterior colour of said resin has been renewed, having no abnormality in physical and chemical properties, achieving comparatively perfect restoration of the working exchange capacity, and reducing the cost of resuscitation.2.ZnS/activated carbon (AC) composite materials was prepared using junked macroporous strong acid cation ion-exchange resin as starting material. These resins were treated with an aqueous solution of Zn2+ and both treated resins and non-treated resins were carbonized. The effects of heat-treatment temperature, heating rate, impregnation ratio of ZnCl2 on the yield and adsorption property of ZnS/AC were investigated, the highest capacity occurs at 500℃with heating rate of 3℃/min and impregnation ratio of 1.5. Through X-ray powder diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and BET measurement, the effects of doping of ZnCl2 were investigated. The addition of ZnCl2 affects mainly the adsorption capacity, the size of graphite crystallites and the number of micropores in the carbons. The photocatalytic activity was evaluated by measuring the methy orange removal efficiency using UV/photocatalyst system, and the degradation rate reached 48%. In the heavy metal ions removal test, the sample showed higher Cu2+, Ni2+ and Pb2+ removal efficiency, an the degradation efficiency were all above 98%.3.CdS/resin composite materials and Nano- and micro- CdS nano rods were in situ synthesized via facile ion exchange process with junked macroporous strong basic anion-exchange resin as starting material. The effects of reaction time on the morphology and structure of products were investigated by SEM and XRD measurement. Methy orange was used as model reaction to evaluate the photocatalytic activity of the prepared products under Xe and sun light irradiation, and the effects of morphology, pH, initial concentration of methy orange on the degradation efficiency were investigated. The results showed that the CdS/resin sample showed higher methy orange removal efficiency under sun light irradiation, the degradation rate of was above 99%, and the photocatalyst keep the decomposition efficiency after ten times. Furthermore, this CdS/resin composite materials have many advantages, such as simple operation and low cost. And there is a good perspective in its wide application...
