The property, application and harm of chlorine and adsorption characteristics of molecular sieves were introduced in the paper. The research progress of chlorine adsorption properties was reviewed. Adsorption properties of chlorine on NaX, NaY, MCM-41, MCM-48 and mordenite molecular sieves with the P-C-T apparatus was studied. Molecular sieves was analyzed by IR Spectrum and XRD.The conclusions are following1.Infrared spectra of NaX, NaY and mordenite molecular sieves showed that characteristic peaks of framework structure of molecular sieves after adsorption existed; XRD patterns showed that characteristic peaks of NaX, NaY and mordenite after adsorption were still in, but the peak intensity of NaX decreased slightly, which probably was caused by the combining between Cl and Si-OH or Al-OH on surface of X type molecular sieve and also probably was caused by trace of acid in chlorine.2.1nfrared spectra of MCM-41 and MCM-48 molecular sieve showed that main framework of molecular sieve after adsorption existed; XRD patterns showed that characteristic peaks of MCM-41 and MCM-48 molecular sieve after adsorption were still in, but the peak intensity of NaX decreased severely, which means some part of skeletal structure of the molecular sieves after adsorption was destroyed and the sequencing degree was declined. so the chlorine capacity was effected severely.3.Experimental data showed that Experimental data showed that adsorption properties of chlorine on molecular sieves were greatly affected by framework structure, pore volume and pore size. The largest adsorption amount is up to the pore volume. The specific surface of skeletal structure is the main factor affected the adsorption capacity of NaX and NaY molecular sieves which have similar structure and pore volume, which means more larger area has more adsorption amount. To different molecular sieves with different pore volume and aperture, more larger volume and aperture has more adsorption amount. The adsorption capacity is also affected by the pore canal of molecular sieves, the more convenient of adsorption gas transporting, the more adsorption capacity. The largest adsorption amounts of the five samples in experiment is NaY(28.70%)>mordenite(24.32%)>NaX(20.84%)>MCM-48(18.86%)>MCM-4 1(17.89%).4.The adsorption curve of NaX, NaY, mordenite, MCM-41 and MCM-48 at 0℃,30℃and 50℃was studied. The results showed that the chlorine absorption amount increased with the temperature decrease and pressure increased. The adsorption curves confirmed to the Langmuir equation and the adsorption belonged to physical process.5.The characteristic of molecular sieve chlorine adsorption property is determined by different factors. The main factor affected the adsorption amount of the molecular sieve is the type of the molecular sieve.
