The going monitor and intelligent diagnosis for pumping units becomes a popular and important research topic under the construction of the digital oilfield. The monitoring technology of the oil well has the characteristics of limited monitoring function, heavy investment and difficult to update, which restrict oilfield management enhancement and productivity. In order to improve this situation, a design of going monitor system for the pumping units based on virtual instrument technology is proposed on the basis of the working principle of the beam pumping unit and the research of the monitoring system design in this paper. The polished rod motion of the pumping unit, working principle of the driving motor, the sensor measurement and the signal processing are discussed in this paper, combing the core technology"the software is the instrument"of the virtual instrument, the working parameters monitor and surface dynamometer card acquirement can be realized with the least hardware resource, which reduces the investment and the risk of system failure due to the hardware fault. The calculation models of judgment on the driving motor power curve and counterbalance adjustment of the pumping unit are established through the research of counterbalance of the pumping unit; the calculation model of pump dynamometer is established through the research of micro-element force analysis of the rod and calculation of the damping coefficient; the calculation model of metering well yield with dynamometer method is established through the research of the metering well yield with dynamometer method; the model of error correction is established through error analysis of the monitoring system; the real time of the monitoring system is satisfied and the system function is extended by using the virtual instrument, which has the advantage of data processing to increase the solving speed and enhance the accuracy of the models. The algorithm of machine reading is established using the Fourier descriptor based on the polygonal approximation algorithm through the research of the pattern identification principle and the diagnosis technology of the pumping unit working conditions; the dynamometer sample database of the six typical working conditions is established; the intelligent diagnosis model of the pumping unit working conditions using pattern identification of the dynamometer is established; the speed and accuracy of the diagnosis are increased combining the multi-tasks parallel processing and extended interface of the virtual instrument. The going monitor system for the pumping unit based on virtual instrument technology is designed based on LabVIEW according to the modular design, the system satisfies the demand of the monitoring and the analysis of the pumping unit working condition, it fully demonstrates the superiority of the virtual instrument and has the advantages of high accuracy, comprehensive data analysis, real time and convenient update. The software is tested by the measured well data, the result shows that the monitoring system of the pumping unit working condition based on virtual instrument technology has feasibility and has a certain theoretical and practical value.
