With the growing shortage of petroleum and seriously environment pollution, the emulsified fuel has received increasing attention which can reduce pollution and save energy. The development of cheaper and stable micro-emulsified diesel has certain value of application. In this paper, the micro- emulsified diesel was prepared by using the mixture of surfactants, whilst, the influencing factors on the amount of water addition into diesel were discussed. The technical indexes of micro- emulsified diesel were measured and compared with GB diesel. On this basis, bench test was carried out to evaluate the performance of micro- emulsified diesel in energy-saving and exhaust emission.The selection of emulsifier with suitable structure and HLB value is the key to prepare the micro-emulsified diesel. Co-surfactant is also the essential composition for the formation of micro-emulsion system. In this paper, the non-ionic surfactants,such as span-80 and span-60, were selected to mixed with other types surfactants to prepare water-diesel micro-emulsion, which was assisted by C3,C4,C5 chain alcohols. The main factors, which have effect on the micro-emulsified diesel system, were investigated though the method of the maximum amounts of water addition. The results showed that the two-component mixtures of span-80/ emulsifier or span-60/ emulsifier can obtain stable micro-emulsified diesel. When the dosage of span-80/ emulsifier or span-60/ emulsifier mixture being about 5wt%, and the pentanol dosage being about 2v%~3v% as the co-surfactant, the maximum amounts water addition into diesel can reach as high as about 6wt %~9wt%. Furthermore, micro-emulsified diesel with water content as high as 10wt %~14wt% was also successfully prepared, using organic carboxylic acid and organic amine as additives.The main technical indexes and performance of the clean micro-emulsified diesel was detected and evaluated. The micro-emulsified diesel has good storage stability both at low temperature and at room temperature for a long time of period, the main technical indexes indicated that there was little difference between GB 0# diesel and micro-emulsified diesel, which can basically meet the technical demand of national standards for vehicle diesel. Bench test results revealed that the micro-emulsified diesel's export power and torque performance lost about 2.2% compared with the GB 0# diesel under medium load conditions, which had no obvious influence on the motor's operation. The oil-saving rate of micro-emulsified diesel can reach 5%~10%, at the same time, the micro-emulsified diesel can reduce the exhaust emission greatly, with particles smoke emission decreasing by 30%~50%, CO2 decreasing by 9.1% and decreasing by NOx 4.8% in average.
