In ink-jet printing, dot enlargement is a very important reason to printing quality, it is very necessary to establish a dot gain model and implanting into the halftoning algorithm for preprocessing.At present, in printing process, dot enlargement characteristic curve is used to deal with dot gain, but it is limited. In this article a method that combines physical dot gain model and optical dot gain model is proposed, and the comprehensive dot gain model which combines two dot gain model is more persuasive. Then ED (error diffusion) algorithm is chose as the halftone method, and it is improved use the comprehensive model. In this procedure a model called HVS (human visual system) that used in DBS algorithm to simulate the effect of human visual is introduced to get a better halftone.This article launches as follows: first, physical dot gain and optical dot gain are discussed separately, and then a comprehensive dot gain model is established. In the halftoning algorithm part, ED is introduced from several related method. HVS model and the comprehensive dot gain model constructed before are introduced into the algorithm for upgrade. In the last part of this article, some validations and conclusions are developed.
