Variable data printing is a personalized on-demand printing technology, it plays an important role in bill printing, invoice printing, commercial printing, card printing, etc. Thus, actively researching it can help making independent intellectual property rights of digital printing technology and developing China's printing industry.Now domestic and international device of variable data printing base on ppml is expensive, lack of scalabitity and not good in compatibility. The detail of different gray image is easily lost after RIP. Thus, this paper proposes corresponding file analyzing and digital halfton algorithm by analyzing the theory of variable data printing base on ppml, then designs a file analyzing and screening system which can analyze variable data pinting files and get a good halfton result. The main result and work of this paper are as follows:1. researched the principle of variable data printing based on ppml, proposed the modified idea and research methods;2. analyzed the structure principle of PPML file and its source data files(PDF,JPEG,TIFF) in theory, on this base, proposed corresponding digital printing file analyzing algorithm;3. researched the digital halftoning technology, then proposed an automatic threshhod error diffusion method based on Z-path by optimizing the halftone scanning path and quantitative threshold;4. wrote corresponding program for the file analyzing and screening algorithm, designed and developed the file analyzing and screening system; the result of PPML file analysis and different digital halftone algorithm are given by experiment, and evaluated the advantage and disadvantage of various halftone algorithm in recovering image qulity objectively;5. Finally, summarized the full text and proposed some prospects for further research.
