Polyamide 6 was the first species of the engineering plastics, and also is the largest branch of polyamide currently. In order to improve the usage to the high function and high property, the property of PA6 should be be improved in order to yeild materials with multi-function and high performance. In this manuscript, MMT and halloysite modified by different method were mixed with PA6 matrix using melt intercalation method, the mechanicl properties of PA6 was improved and the water absorption content of the composites was reduced.In this paper, the octadecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride and phenolic aldehyde were used to organically modify montmorillonite in order to make it fully stripped and organical coated. The diameter of Montmorillonite particles reached 30nm by the two methods. The effect of the modifier content on the activated rate of montmorillonite was studied. Experiments show that activated rate of montmorillonite is close to 100% when the content of octadecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride montmorillonite and phenolic montmorillonite was 5% and 7%, respectively.The PA6/MMT composites were prepared through two-screw extrution in order to study the influence of the content of modified MMT on the properties of PA6. The results showed that composites with phonolic aldhyde modified MMT had better combination properties than composites with OTAC modified MMT. The tensile strength, bending strength and vicat softing temperature were improved about 12.3%, 58.8% and 2% in respectively. The water adsorption content of the sample was decreased form 3.9% to 3.0%.HNTs were modified by KH550. The results showed that when the dose of the KH550 reached 2%, the activited rate could reached 100%. The modified HNTs could disperse homogeneously in the alcohol.A novel ternary component PA/phenolic-m-MMT/m-HNTs composite was prepared to investigate the influence of the mixture ratio of phenolic-m-MMT/m-HNTs on the properties of PA6. The results showd the Vicat softing temperature was improved about 5℃and the water adsorpation content was reduced about 50%. The tensile strength was improved lOMpa and the bending strengh was improved from 32Mpa to 100Mpa increase about 212.5%, but the elongation rate was decreased about 25%.Overall, PA6 composites with organically modified montmorill-onite and halloysite showed higher mechanical properties and heat resistance and less water absorption content than the pure PA6 materials.
