Usually the foam metal is used with the traditional dense metal composite components, such as the plane,column or complex shape of hollow metal components. The foam metal can hide in the density of the components and can take corrosion protection. The sandwich structure of foam metal is used metal plane and faom metal component of so called "sandwich" structure, it can take the characteristics of foam metal fully and solve the problem of it's lower strength. Because of the peculiar squeezing properties of the foam metal, it can absorb more in the plastic deformation stage, so this structure has a broad prospect in the ues of damping,impact resistance and energy absorption.This paper adopt ANSYS10.0 explicit dynamic analysis of ANSYS10.0/LS_DYNA module and study the response of metallic sandwich panels with a aluminium foam core under dynamic impact, compared with the experiments, then verify the accuracy of the models. The situation of the simulation is same with the test. By theoretical analysis and numerical simulation results are as follows:(1) With the simulated results and experimental above can be seen, the results of simulation and experiment are basically identical. In the beginning, on the reverse of the impact point appeared bulge phenomenon, then lowerlayer aluminum plate cracking, open till collapse completely with the increase of the impact energy.(2) The penetration of the bullet are increased with the increase of the velocity of the bullet.(3) Through the simulation results can be seen:the sandwich board structure can withstand greater wallop than the simple metal, it's has the superiority of the structure.Study the response of metallic sandwich panels with a aluminium foam core under dynamic impact with the ANSYS/LS-DYNA software, compared with the experiments, it can research the resist impact safety materials and give the more reliable basis for engineering design.Based on the sandwich structure model, then study the use of it in the automotive bumpers. The crashworthiness of the car bumper system play a important role in the car crash. The research of the vehicle bumpers became more and more both in the domestic and overseas, many studies show that can increase the bumper system crashworthiness effectively though choosing the butter material reasonably and designing the butter structure reasonably. This paper through the simulation of the automotive bumpers collision process, study the use of the foam metal in the vehicle bumper. The all external condition are same, the absorbing energy of the contain foam metal bumper are 5 times than the ordinary bumper.The real application of the sandwich structure is in the study phase. So the simulation method give a convenient and effectively way, it's a easy and economical method in the metallic foam analysis.
