In recent years, with restraining of carbon emission all over the world, the quantitative research of carbon emission become a hot topic. In order to evaluate the greenhouse gas abatement project efficaciously, the carbon emission should be calculated. There are many estimation methods of carbon emission, this study aims to find proper method that can be applied to carbon emission calculation in the process of high concentration organic wastewater treatment. The process of high concentration organic wastewater treatment will produce large amounts of biogas, which will pollute the environment seriously, methane(the main ingredient of biogas) is the main reason that creates the greenhouse effect. Through analyzing the treatment process and the means of carbon emission in high concentration organic wastewater treatment field, amount of carbon emission not only has close relationships with treatment methods, but also with science technology, investment in the economic system and so on. So, in this paper, the Clean Development Mechanism methodology on the base of reduction mechanism was adopted to estimate its carbon emission. The implementation of CDM promoted recycling biogas and power generation, not only can reduce pollution, can reduce fuel demand, relieve tention status of energy in China and can bring considerable economic benefits for such projects. The applicable scope of methodology AMS-III.H(Methane recovery in wastewater treatment)are wide, although the application process is complex, the selection of the more parameters make the results more accurate. Therefore, this paper will study the methodology, and is of great significance for mastering the carbon emission of this field and carrying out CDM projects.Beginning with the methodology AMS-III.H(Methane recovery in wastewater treatment), 15 times evolvement processes of the methodology from its initial use to now are analyzed, the application, project boundary, the identification of baseline scenario, baseline emission, project emission, the calculate of emission reduction, monitoring plans and other main problems of the latest version methodology are studied. Finally biogas recovery and power generation project of some alcohol brewery in Jilin is taken as an example to explain the specific application of AMS-III.H.In accordance with the requirements of the methodology AMS-III.H, baseline scenario and parameters selection of biogas recovery and power generation project in wastewater treatment are analyzed. The baseline emission is 40,980.5 tCO2e/a; the project emission is 4,207.1tCO2e/a; the emission reduction is 36,773 tCO2e/a. It has considerable greenhouse gas reduction potential and environmental benefits. The calculation method adopted in this study not only estimates the carbon emission of high concentration organic wastewater treatment field effectively, but also provides scientific basis and technical support for the implementation of biogas recovery in wastewater treatment field, and provides help for the development of CDM in China.
