Characterization and treatment of BTSE (Biologically Treated Sewage Effluent) was summarized, and DOM (Dissolved Organic Matter) from BTSE, discharged by a huge pulp and paper park along the Huai River, was concentrated by Reverse Osmosis. Five fractions with different MWCO (Molecular Weight Cut-offs:>10000Da, 2000-10000Da,1000-2000Da,<300Da)were collected by ultra-membranes or nano-membranes, accounting for 15.9%,14.1%,35.4%,13.6% and 21% of DOC, respectively. MWCO was proven as a very significant property highly related with the others, and high-MWCO fractions were more hydrophobic (operational defined by XAD-8 resin) and with greater SUVAs (UV254/DOC) and greater sorption of ultraviolet spectrum 465cm-1 and 665cm-1.DOM can be separated into five parts, such as hydrophobic acid(HPO-A), hydrophobic neutral(HPO-N), transphilic acid(TPI-A), transphilic neutral(TPI-N), hydrophilic fraction(HPI) and others, accounting for 122.1%,16.2%,14.5%,24% and 23.2% of DOC, according to DOM's absorption characteristics in different ion exchange resin. NDMP, a new strong basic anion-exchange resin with acrylic skeleton was selected from four commonly used adsorbents, due to its outstanding performance in terms of capacity, velocity and regeneration in the treatment of BTSE. Some studies show that PH between 6.5 and 8 is good for resin absorbing DOM and NDMP removing DOM. Dynamic adsorption experiment shows that the DOM removal rate was reduced rapidly after 600 batch volume while it was best and stability at 100 batch volume. Different results were achieved by different regenerates and 10% NaCl mixed with 0.1% NaOH solution was chosen respecting engineering considerations. Iinorganic flocculants, compared with organic polymer place on the biochemical lower tail water DOM, macromolecular can be removed by flocculants, the molecular weight, removal rate is higher; NDMP resin extended coagulation adsorption cycle, the biochemical process of integration of tail water removal rate compared to direct adsorption removal of DOM increased by 20%.
