The resource of heavy oil and oil sand is three times than that of conventional oil in theworld, and it will be the main energy source in the future for most of it is not recovered andthe conventional oil is rapidly depleted. However, it is difficult to recover heavy oil becauseof its high viscosity and poor flowing ability. Aquathermolysis is a new and potentialtechnology to recover heavy oil, especial the extra heavy oil. The key technologies ofaquathermolysis required were researched in this dissertation. It includes aquathermolyticcatalysts, upgrading and enhancing technology involving hydrogen donor, and practicaltechnics and technologies. The results show that Shengli heavy oil can undergoaquathermolysis in steam injection process. Hydrothermal cracking occurred while injectingsteam, and the catalyst had catalytic activity for hydrothermal cracking of heavy oil at highertemperature; viscosity and average molecular weight of heavy oil was thus lowered.
